Elliott's 9th birthday

Elliott's 9th birthday was yesterday. And I'm blogging about it today!

We had already decided, at the end of November, that it was too dangerous for him to have a birthday party this year.  He has always wanted a pool party for his birthday, which is difficult to do in December, so we decided that we would postpone his friend party until June. He was fine with that, but I still wanted to make the day extra special for him because 2020 continues to be hard.

Donuts for breakfast.

We tried to take some "official nine year old" pictures before school, but Elliott didn't like any of them.  Notice I said Elliott, because I was fine with the piano ones.

He did say that this one was OK for his block photo.  See the blocks in the background?

We did a few more when he got home from school.

And then I got the brilliant idea to do this!
We ordered dinner in from his restaurant of choice.

Michael got a steak omelet and potatoes.

Spencer got chicken noodle soup, because he was at the orthodontist the day before and his teeth hurt.

I got potato latkes with smoked salmon.

And the birthday boy got strawberry shortcake pancakes, which you will notice these are not.  They messed up his order and gave him the wrong pancakes, so we added chocolate chips.

After dinner it was time for official pictures.

And some not so official pictures.

Then on to presents!

All of these were from us.  The pictures also loaded in reverse, so he opened them bottom to top.

Striped shirt

Chocolate santas to make hot chocolate

A wallet

Target gift card

Wendy's gift card

NASA sticker for his laptop, and birthday candy

Subway gift card

Starbucks gift card (he likes the cake pops- not for coffee).

Astronaut shirt

Roblox gift card from Spencer

Nutella and go jumbo pack.  We were all joking about this being a huge vat of nutella.

Stars and Planets book

Fizzing Mars experiment

Star Wars books

My parents got him three presidents books, but we were video conferencing with them when he opened them, so I didn't get a picture.  I'll get one and add it to the next post.

After presents it was time for dessert.

Brownie for Spencer

Chocolate cheesecake for Michael

Brownie for the birthday boy

A gigantic creme brulee for me

We sang to him twice because Spencer ruined it the first time by adding cha-cha-cha.  The birthday boy has specific ideas about many things.
