Spencer was born in 2007. Did you know there was a Baby Boomlet that year? It's true.
Here's a little snippet from USA Today:
A record number of babies were born in the USA in 2007. The 4,315,000 births in 2007, reported by the National Center for Health Statistics, gives just a glimpse of what's ahead in the nursery. The last time the number was this high was in 1957, in the middle of the baby boom years.
The increase in births in 2007 is attributed to a "perfect storm" of factors: more immigrants having children, professional women who delayed childbearing until their 40s, and larger numbers of women in their 20s and 30s in the population, keeping the fertility rate high. .
But family demographer Ronald Rindfuss of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill says there is a bigger question looming than who's having kids.
"From the perspective of schools that have to educate these children, this is a real increase in the number of births and something they're going to have to deal with," he says. But it won't be "the kind of shock that we saw at the beginning of the baby boom. In 1952 and '53, in many parts of the country, schools had to run double sessions. This is a gradual increase."
There were 32 other babies born at the same hospital the day that Spencer was born. (My dad asked the nurses). A year later I actually had the brother of one of those babies as a client. How crazy is that?
Want to know how I really know the data about the boomlet is correct? Because we can never find the size of clothes that Spencer currently is. Why? Because he's competing with 4.3 million other kids for the same size. Honestly. When Spencer was wearing 12 month clothes we couldn't find 12 month clothes, but every other size was available. Same with 18 months, 2T and now 3T. Luckily he is smaller on the bottom so we're only having trouble finding tops since all 4.3 million other 2007 babies seem to be in 3T's right now.
I'm telling you all this because we went to Carter's tonight to look for summer jammies. I wanted to check it off the spring break list. There were racks of jammies. I'm talking racks and racks and racks. All with 12 month, 18 month, 2T, 4T and 5T. No 3T's. It was almost comical. 950 pairs of pajamas and not a 3T in the bunch.
We ended up buying 4T's. Each set came with the top, shorts and pants.
We also couldn't resist this outfit.
We're going to the zoo on Saturday with some friends. I forgot to mention it on the spring break list. It's a special event and we get to enter and have breakfast before the zoo opens. I like Spencer to wear appropriately themed clothes for our events, i.e. monkey shirt to visit the monkeys. The shirt is a 5T, because there were no 3T's or 4T's. It's pretty long on Spencer. Some of those 2007 babies are turning 4 so pretty soon there will be a gradual change where we find more 3T stuff and less 4T stuff.

How dare you cheat on me...going to the zoo with someone else. I should give you the silent treatment...oh wait the phone is ringing and it's you so I guess I won't be giving you the slient treatment!
I am on my way to Carter's to get some summer (since it just got freaking hot!) jammies for Tyler. I will be sure not to get these two, you know, just in case they are ever together while wearing jammies for some reason.
