Elliott's expressive vocabulary at almost 15 months

These pictures don't really have anything to do with the subject of this post.  They're just some cute swinging pictures that I wanted to share.  This was actually a week ago on Monday the 4th.

These were taken while Spencer was at school.

These were later after Spencer came home and Elliott had taken a nap.  It was warm so Elliott swang in his diaper.

Ok.  That's done.

I am moving into bragging mode now.  Elliott will be 15 months old on Saturday.  If you count mom and mama and dad and dada as separate words (and he does use them differently) he has 24 words in his expressive vocabulary.  There is a huge range of normal/average at this age, but if I were doing an evaluation on a 15 month old I would expect them to have between 2 and 6 words.

This is what Elliott is able to say.

Uh-O!
He says this every time he drops something- even if it was on purpose.

Hi!
He says this to everybody.

Bye!
With a wave at the same time.

Thank you
He says this when you give him something, when he gives you something and when we buy something.  He's very polite.  The receptionist at the orthodontist yesterday printed out a reminder slip for our next appointment.  Elliott said thank you as she handed it to me and her jaw just about hit the floor.

Ginger
His favorite word and favorite member of our family.  He is crystal clear and says this 5.6 billion times a day.

Papa
We have pictures of the grandparents in the hallway and he says papa as we walk by them. All of the grandparents are Papa right now, although he is getting closer to saying Gramme.  A kid in a book was recently Papa too.

Boo!
He will cover his face with any variety of things (book, clothes, hands, food) and then BOO! during the big reveal.

ROAR!
Every time he sees a dinosaur.  He has a dinosaur room, so he roars a lot.

Oooh oooh aah aah
Monkey noises.

Mom and Mama
For me of course.  He does use them in different contexts though.  Mama is usually a little whinier like when he wants me to pick him up or he's getting tired.  When he is calling to me from across the room it is always Moooooom! and he sounds exactly like Spencer.

Dad and Dada
Dada is usually when he's asking "where is dada?"

Ahhhhh
After taking a drink or watching us take a drink.

Nana
For our sitter.  He asks for her in the morning because he knows she comes right after he wakes up.  She is only here on Thursdays and he obviously doesn't know the days of the week yet.

No No
He says this as he's doing something he knows he shouldn't.  He usually says it as a question, like,
No No? Should I not be playing with the buttons on the TV?

Done
Done with swinging, done with the bath, done with eating, done with this diaper change, done with my nap.

Da
This is his only word that doesn't sound like the real word.  This is his word for Spencer.  And Spencer is a very tricky word with it's s-blends and vocalic r.  He says Da? Da?  as we walk down the hallway to pick Spencer up from school.  Coincidentally, Da was Spencer's word for Ginger.

Whoa!
Usually said when he knocks a tower of blocks down or he falls on his butt.

Go
He's say go over and over as we're getting in the car.  When I turn the engine on and start driving he kicks his legs really fast and yells Go! Go! Go!  We were waiting at a red light yesterday and he was telling me to Go!

Choo Choo
Trains.  He says this as he pushes them on the track and also when he sees one.  He correctly identified the choo choo at the mall last week.

Hey
Another way to say hi.

Whee!
He says this when he's swinging or going down the slide.

Baby
He points to babies in books and says "baby".

The kid is still not walking (he's getting close though), but I think it's obvious that all of his energy has been going towards communication.

And climbing.

This is where I found him on Friday.

And yes.  I grabbed the camera and took three pictures before removing him and moving the chair.
