The next Lance

This is what Spencer looked like on March 6, 2009.  I remember taking these pictures like it was yesterday.  I remember thinking that he was getting so big and mature.  Ha!

I wrote a blog post about Spencer's 18 month birthday.  You can check out the flashback here.
No one ever commented on that post.  Throw me a bone.  Say something about events that are 2 years old.

Fast forward 24 months.  Last week Spencer figured out how to pedal his tricycle.  He just "got" it.  There is absolutely no stopping him now.

We started out in the backyard.
He was just so damn pleased with himself.
Then we grabbed some shades and headed for the street.
He got really fast really fast.  I think he is so much more likely to tip over now that he is pedaling, compared to just scooting around with his feet.  Plus Kendra, my sister in law, is a doctor and after her pediatric rotation she told me that one of the most common brain injuries in children happens when kids fall off their tricycles.  ER doctors see it all the time.  Parents know to put a helmet on their kids when they ride a bike, but they don't think about a kid getting a concussion on a trike, so there are more trike concussions simply because there are less kids in helmets.

With that in mind we went to Target the next day to buy a helmet.  That trip was sidelined with Spencer throwing up in the bike aisle.  He had a little 24 hour virus last week and his asthma flared up for a day.  He was just coughing so hard that he gagged.  Luckily he had nothing to eat or drink all day (he becomes anorexic when he's sick) so it was just like throwing up saliva.

We got this baby at Walmart on Saturday.
P.S.  That's the official 3 1/2 year old picture.

He looks so pleased with himself pedaling, and so excited to have the awesome helmet! What a fun time!

What a great picture. In 2 years I'll be writing about Hadley's 3 1/2 year day and you about Spencer's 5 1/2 year day. Uggg...our babies are getting big.
