365 Days

July 8, 2010 continues to win as the worst day of my life thus far.

That was the day Spencer fell in the shower on the last day of our New England vacation.  That was the day that he split his lip open.  That was the day that we had to put him, naked, in the car seat and drive an hour to the closest emergency room.  That was the day that it took 4 adults (me included) to hold him down so the ER doctor could stitch him back up.

2 hours before the fall
1.5 hours after the fall, right before he got stitches.
2 hours after the fall, right after getting stitches
15 hours later
5 days later, right before getting the stitches taken out.
5 days later, right after getting the stitches removed.
3 months later
6 months later
9 months later
(the macaroni and cheese face is unrelated to healing)
1 year later
July 8, 2011
He healed better than we could have hoped for.
A small scar is still visible.  Sometimes it is a little pinkish.  Mostly it has no color.  I notice a little asymmetry on either side of the scar on his upper lip.  I've been told by other people that they wouldn't notice anything if I didn't point it out.  I really think that as he grows and his skin stretches during that growth it will become less and less visible.  Probably by the time he is in junior high I won't even notice it anymore.
I will always, always, always have that scar in my heart though.

yikes! Glad the scar is mostly healed. You know it was way worse on you than on him, right? Love you!

That would have been really scary! Spencer looked so serious in that picture before the fall. Maybe he knew something was going to happen...hmmm...
