A big weekend for Spencer

Not related to Spencer, or really this post, but I made these low carb, grain free bagels on Saturday morning.

I'll totally make this recipe again.  It was a winner.

On Saturday afternoon Spencer and I went out to lunch and then went to a book launch party.  He has read all of The Unwanteds books (seven books between Christmas and the end of January) and was so excited about the release of the second book in The Unwanteds Quest series.  All on his own he found out about the launch party in Tempe and we bought tickets for it. The author actually lives in Mesa, so all of her launch parties are close-by.  That's good to know for the future.

Spencer played with his cube at lunch.  He wanted to "fake out" daddy and Elliott by making it look like he finished it.

We got to the bookstore at 2:30 for a 3:00 start time, so we got great seats and got into the first group for book signings after.

They had a sign language interpreter, which is something I always appreciate.

Here she is, Lisa McMann.

Talking about dragons from the book.  This model dragon was her inspiration for a particular character.
All of the kids that were born around the time that her first book in this series was released got a special gift.  Spencer was six months old for her first book.
Spencer was the 4th person in line for signing.  There were probably 60 people there.  And she spent ample time with everyone.  I was so glad we were early.

She was so awesome.  She really had a great conversation with him.

She told him to come to her next book release and to bring all of his books and she will sign all of them.

The whole set.  They were all paperbacks until this new release.  I'm like 82% bothered by it.
A random bath bomb picture from Saturday night.  It has nothing to do with anything, I was just impressed with my photography skills.
Sunday was a big, big day. I had 100% decided that we were going to buy the $300 loft bed from IKEA for Spencer.  We were also going to buy a new mattress that would fit it, so we were looking at a $500 purchase.   Then I looked on Offer Up and found someone selling a practically new bed and mattress for $200.  Her eight year old son was terrified of sleeping that high and had started sleeping in his parent's bed, so they were desperate to sell it and get him a new bed.  I told her I absolutely wanted it and could pay the full asking price, but needed a day to figure out how to go pick it up.  Then she said that for $30 they would deliver.  So, for $230 we got the frame, the mattress, delivery and a bed that was almost totally put together.  It was totally put together, but they had to break it down a bit to move it.

On Sunday morning I took official "before" pictures and then we started emptying the room.

We broke the bed down and moved it out.  The head board and foot board was the crib (that neither kid ever actually used as a crib), so we're going to save it for when Spencer moves out and we change him room again.

Doesn't the carpet look great where nobody has ever walked?

Once the room was empty we took a quick three hour detour for Spencer's soccer practice and game.

Then back at home the loft bed was delivered.

And that began our entire afternoon, evening and night of putting it together.  It was right around this point when we realized there was no way in hell it was going to fit on this wall because the ceiling was too low.
So they we had to clear off the entire other opposite wall.  These things (a pokemon toy and a sharpie) were stuck to the wall when we moved the desk.

Well this is just delightful.
Since we were putting the bed on the opposite wall we had to pull down the two wall shelves from the corner. First of all, they were totally stuck to the wall.  Secondly, when we killed ourselves knocking them loose and got them off, they ripped the dry wall down with them.

The bed in place.

I can stand up straight under it.  Michael has to crouch a little.
The whole thing took way longer than we had anticipated or planned for, so we ended up watching the Super Bowl on a laptop.  And really, I watched none of it.  I don't even pretend to care these days.

We had to pull some of the wallies planets down.  They didn't survive.

Looking good room.

Honestly, we just covered all the damage on the walls with the bulletin board and posters.  We'll deal with it when we repaint the room once Spencer is a total grown-up and out of our house.

I asked Elliott if he wanted a loft bed too.  He has no interest, thank goodness.

We finalized the room on Thursday (which is today, when I'm writing this post), so you'll be seeing more of it in the coming days.
