Massachusetts Day 4

The most delightful part about staying in a house with the parents of the bride is that when they host brunch the day after the wedding you're already there.

I just had to roll out of bed (and shower and do my hair and make-up and get dressed) and I was ready to eat.
See the coconut one in the back?  I ate it.  It was Mother's Day after all and what is Mother's Day except an excuse to eat donuts.

I helped set this up.  It took 10 second but I felt like I participated.
After brunch my parents and I headed out on an adventure.  I have always, always, always, ALWAYS wanted to go to Provincetown.  And when I say always, I mean since September, 1999 when Megan first took me to Cape Cod for my 20th birthday and I saw a map of the whole Cape.

I'm pleased to say I have now been there.

It took about 90 minutes to drive from Mashpee (where we were staying) to Provincetown.  As we were driving in I gave my camera to my dad who jumped out of the car to take a picture of the welcome to Provincetown sign.  Then I never checked the camera and didn't realize until, oh, yesterday when I loaded these pictures, that he never actually took the picture.

Thanks to the miracle of the internet, this is the actual sign.

We also saw this sign, but I did not ask my dad to jump out of the car to take a non-picture of it.
We found a parking lot to park the car and tried to walk out onto a pier for some photo ops, but it was freezing cold.

So we walked like 20 feet and angled the photos to make them more picturesque than they really were.

Me and my mama on Mother's Day.

Right after these pictures it started raining.  Hard. So we decided to go to the Pilgrim monument and museum that is in town since it was just about the only thing not outside.

We walked by Provincetown High School on the way.  Can you imagine going to high school here?
For those that do not know, Provincetown Harbor was the initial anchoring place of the Pilgrims traveling on the Mayflower in 1620, before they proceeded to Plymouth, Massachusetts.

My mom and I got in to the museum for free because it was Mother's Day.  Score!  And my dad got a senior discount.  Double score!

This is the monument.  We climbed to the top.

At the base.

At the top.  Guess what?  It was cold and windy up there.

That's the high school we walked by.  You can't really tell from this angle, but it was a very steep hill.

My hair did all sorts of interesting things on this trip.

My dad watched this ship come all the way in to the dock.  I gave up before they dropped anchor because it was too cold.

Ok.  Take a look at this picture.

Remember this picture?
Well, the skinny arrow is our rental car and the fat arrow is where we took that picture.  That's as far as we could make it in the cold wind.
I thought it was funny that there was an outlet in the stair well of the monument tower.  I briefly thought about taking a few moments to charge my phone.

Looking down.  It was half ramps and half stairs.

I took this picture for Megan.  Her daughter is named Hadley.
It had stopped raining by the time we left the museum and monument so we walked around a bit and did some shopping.

Town hall

We went to The Black Dog.

I bought this mug.

Candy store for stuff for the kids.

Fudge for Spencer

Salt water taffy for Elliott.  He is always asking me for taffy.  I think he just likes saying taffy.

Then we went out for a fabulous seafood late lunch/early dinner.

My mom and I both had phenomenal bowls of lobster bisque.
We also had arancini balls full of lobster, calamari and mussels in broth.   I'm 99.99% sure that it was the mussels that caused me to become violently ill and caused 15 minutes of vomiting about an hour after we got back to the house.  But, you know, up until that point it was a really, really good day.

Aside from your illness and the weather, it looks like a nice day...
