Transportation Day

Hello. I'm back. I haven't blogged since Tuesday. That's a long time for me. What can I say- we had a pretty boring week. I didn't really take any pictures either. Right now I'm going to make up for my lack of blogging and then some. You are about to see 1,495 pictures taken today during "Transportation Day".

We've been looking forward to Transportation Day ever since we found out about it 3 weeks ago. It's the 10th annual Day, but the first time we have attended. Basically a church/preschool invites a bunch of different vehicles to come park in their parking lot and then, free of charge, the public is invited to come check out the different modes of transportation. The flier said there were 40 vehicles. I actually think there were more. There was food and vendors and games too, but we went for the trucks. And cars. And buses. And man, was it fun.

(These photos are actually edited and trimmed down. I didn't post 3/4 of them. Feel free to skim.)

We'll be hearing about this hug for the next week.

He honked the horn. Enthusiastically.

Spencer fighting fires.

In the back of the ambulance. The EMT was really nice to him (and really cute).
Daddy and Spencer in the back of the police SWAT van.
That police officer stood on top of the van the entire time we were there (2 hours).

Police motorcycle

Truly Nolan mouse car. They gave Spencer a coloring book.

Police car. We made Spencer sit in the front and not the back, lest he enjoy sitting in the back which would lead him into a life of crime.

Post office mail van

Spencer's 2nd favorite. The city bus.

Showing off all the stickers he got.

I think that Transportation Day is one of the most fun family things we have ever done. It was close by, it was free, it was simple and spectacular at the same time and it was truly enjoyable. Spencer's face everytime we got to a new vehicle was just priceless. Over and over and over again.

It was the best kind of day.

Lilly Love

Lilly love. Lilly infatuation. Lilly fondness. Lilly crush. Lilly obsession. Lilly stalking.

Whatever you want to call it, Spencer has it. He has fallen for Lilly. Hard. He's smitten.

It's not like Spencer just met Lilly for the first time at her birthday party. At ages 3 (Lilly) and 2 1/2 (Spencer), they actually already have quite the history with each other. This is the first time, though, that Spencer #1) is aware of Lilly's name AND can say it and #2) remembers her after he has seen her and is able to talk about her and the things they did together. And what, you ask, did they do together? Hug and eat cake. That's it. Not very exciting, but that's all he's talked about for 2 days.

This is Spencer's "first" "experience" with Lilly. She was 1 month old and I was about 12 weeks pregnant. Ha!

Their actual first meeting. Spencer was about 6 weeks and Lilly was 7 months. You have to remember that Spencer was 4 weeks early so his adjusted age was 2 weeks. We joked that Lilly and Spencer didn't even look like the same species because although they were both babies, one was a "big" baby and one was an itty bitty baby.17 months and 10 monthsLooking shell shocked that they were just thrown together at the zoo.A pesky little brother getting in the way of young love.Ahh. The infamous hug. Spencer brings it up at least every 45 minutes during his waking hours. I'm sure he's dreaming about her at night too. I saved the Baby-Lilly (Spencer refuses to call himself by his name and calls himself "Baby") hug picture to my desktop. Spencer just sits there and stares at it.

And then smiles when you ask him who it is. "Baby Lilly hug again"

Chelsea, our plan seems to be coming together quite nicely. I'd say let's go shopping for our mother-of-the-bride and mother-of-the-groom dresses but I don't know what will be in style after the kids finish law and medical school- which they have to do before getting married.

Parties #2 and #3

Sunday was a busy day. We attended not one, but two parties bringing the party total for the weekend to three. Party #2 was Lilly's 3rd birthday party and party #3 was just an excuse to watch TV and eat pizza at my brother's house.

This is before heading to Lilly's b-day. Michael thinks Spencer looks pompous. I think he looks tall. He was standing on the island, but I think this is a good way for me to prepare myself for my son being taller than me some day.

Lilly loves Dora. Spencer wore a Dora party hat just long enough for me to take this blurry picture. I think we need a new camera. Ours isn't taking very good photos lately. We played pin the watch on Dora. There was a Dora cake. The birthday princess.
As Lilly opened her presents she gave a hug to the gift giver. A few minutes after she hugged Spencer he came up to me and said, "more hug. Hug again." I said, "who do you want to hug?" He said "Lilly". They ended up hugging like 10 more times. Each time was initiated by Spencer. Lilly was a good sport about it. Me and Chelsea (aka Lilly's mommy). We ended up staying until everyone else had left. We helped clean up while Spencer and Lilly sat outside and had a second go-round of cake. Ah. Young, toddler, forced by your moms love.Dora themed 3rd birthday parties that involve 10 rounds of hugs are exhausting. I like the one sock on, one sock off look. After Spencer's nice long nap we went to Nathan and Kendra's house to watch the U of A basketball game and the USA v Canada men's ice hockey game.Alex and Tionna were there so it was nice to spend a little more time with them. Spencer was calling Tionna "Tuna".This is the last picture I was able to take. I guess I ignored the red low battery light for too long.

Party #1

This is my cousin Alex and his wife Tionna. They just celebrated their 1st wedding anniversary. I totally stole this picture from Tionna's facebook page. I didn't take it myself. They got married at Lake Tahoe last January. We weren't able to make it to the wedding. :(

This is what I looked like the last time we saw Alex and Tionna. 6 months pregnant. At Nathan and Kendra's wedding. Seriously. We took this picture and left the ceremony and haven't seen Alex and Tionna since. This was 32 months ago. Alex and Tionna live in New Hampshire. They are here visiting for the weekend. There was a big get together tonight with people from both sides of their family. We went to a family restaurant/game place called Monkey Business.

Spencer played ski ball for the 1st time.He won enough tickets to get these whistle lips. How fun for me in the coming days. The red eye reduction left Spencer's eyes looking like he's a lizard or something. We're so glad Spencer finally got to meet Alex and Tionna and vice versa. Party #2 is Sunday morning- Lilly's 3rd birthday party. There may also be a party #3 on Sunday afternoon. We're not sure yet. You can be sure that if it happens, there will be pictures posted asap.
